Frequently Asked Questions
What is Practice for a Purpose?
Practice for a Purpose is a platform where musicians raise money by sharing their practice journey.
Musicians create campaigns tied to personal goals—such as instruments, education, or artistic projects—and supporters can contribute directly to those campaigns.
For Donors
How do I donate to a campaign?
Click the “Donate” button on any campaign and follow the secure checkout process.
Is my payment secure?
Yes. All payments are processed securely through Stripe, a trusted payment provider used by millions of businesses worldwide.
Do I receive a receipt?
Yes. You’ll receive a receipt by email after your donation is successfully completed, and you can download or print a PDF directly from the platform.
Can I leave a message with my donation?
Yes. You can include an optional message of support during checkout.
Can I help cover fees?
Yes. During checkout, you have the option to help cover processing fees for the transaction. Choosing to cover fees helps ensure that more of the campaign donation goes directly to the musician.
Can I get a refund?
If you believe a refund is necessary, please contact us. Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis.
For Musicians
How do I create a campaign?
At this stage, PFP is invite-only. Musicians can create campaigns after joining the platform through an invitation. If you are interested in starting a campaign, please feel free to contact us.
What can I raise money for?
Campaigns can support a wide range of musical goals, including instruments, student loans, recordings, competitions, or other artistic endeavors.
How do I track my progress?
You can log practice sessions and share updates to keep your supporters engaged throughout your campaign.
When do I receive funds?
After your campaign ends, PFP begins a short review period before funds are released. If everything is in good standing, payouts are processed automatically. In some cases, such as payment issues or a donation being questioned by a donor, timing may be delayed. You’ll be kept informed throughout the process, from review through payout, and notified when funds are on the way.
Fees
Are there fees for donations?
Donations may include standard payment processing fees handled by Stripe. Each campaign also has its own platform fee from PFP, which is shown before donation and may be reduced or waived for some campaigns. During checkout, donors may have the option to cover applicable fees so that more of their contribution goes directly to the musician.
Does PFP charge a platform fee?
PFP may apply a platform fee to help keep the platform running and growing. The platform fee is campaign-specific and is shown before donation. Some campaigns may have a reduced or waived platform fee through promotions, including founder or invitation-based promotions.
How much does the musician receive?
The amount a musician receives is the donation total minus applicable fees. Stripe/payment processing fees are separate from any PFP platform fee. If a donor chooses to cover applicable fees during checkout, more of the campaign donation goes directly to the musician.
Trust & Safety
PFP connects donors directly with musicians raising funds for their goals.
